Multiple Graduate Student (Ph.D.) available at Michigan State University
(Enrollment available for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025)
The lab of Dr. Jianrong Wang at Michigan State University (MSU) is looking for highly competent and self-motivated graduate students (Ph.D.) to join his lab. Multiple positions are available for enrollment in Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.


Research in Dr. Wang’s lab is at the intersection of bioinformatics, machine learning, statistical modeling, computational biology and computational mathematics, with a focus on building novel computational models and efficient machine learning algorithms to reconstruct high-resolution 3D genome structures, infer large-scale gene regulatory networks and decode the genetic basis of human diseases, based on high-dimensional big-data of multi-omics. The lab is well funded by multiple grants from both NIH and NSF.


The research will engage in both new methodology development and big-data implementation. The projects will involve inter-disciplinary collaborations with experts in statistics, mathematics, computer science, cancer biology, molecular genetics, and pharmacology. The computational predictions will be experimentally tested by our experimental collaborators to boost the scientific impacts. Recent lab members (PhD student and postdoc) have successfully obtained both academic tenure-track faculty jobs and top-tier industry jobs (e.g. Facebook).

For Graduate Student Candidates:
The graduate student positions will be fully supported by Research Assistantship that covers tuition, stipend and benefits. The candidates are expected to be highly self-motivated and have a strong passion for scientific research. Students with excellent computer science, statistics or mathematics backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Strong programming skills (e.g. Python or R) are expected. Knowledge in computational biology and bioinformatics is a plus but not required.
